Welcome to our home page. Our brick and mortar store in Kaimuki on the island of Oahu was open for 14 years. Since 2005, we have operated our business on the web mainly focusing on classes on traditional Hawaiian Quilting at various locations around Oahu.

Quilting was first introduced to Islanders of Hawaii by missionaries in 1820. Then, the Hawaiians were taught methods of piecing fabric scraps to make a large quilt. In addition they learned “snowflake” paper cutting. They had no fabric scraps, so they began creating designs on larger pieces of fabric inspired by their natural surroundings.

As time went on, the missionaries taught geometric quilting techniques as well and the echo style became the traditional Hawaiian quilting style. This method was more compatible with the “snowflake” design appliqués used in a Hawaiian quilt.

In the early days, these quilts were connected to many taboos, resulting in many quilts being destroyed and patterns strictly guarded. Today, the designs are being shared with the rest of the world by lovers of this art form who wish to see this type of quilting survive. We are proud to be part of this Renaissance.
